Chelsea Football Club has officially announced the signing of João Félix on a permanent transfer from Atlético Madrid. The forward has inked a six-year deal with the London club, with the option to extend his stay for an additional 12 months. Reports suggest that the deal between the two clubs is valued at around €50 million ($55.4m), inclusive of add-ons. Additionally, Atlético Madrid will hold a 20% share in any future transfer fee that Félix might generate if he moves away from Chelsea.
For Félix, this move marks a return to west London, where he previously spent a successful six-month loan spell at Stamford Bridge. During his loan stint last season, the Portuguese international netted four goals in 20 appearances. Speaking about his return to Chelsea, Félix expressed his excitement, stating, “I’m really happy to be back at Chelsea and I can’t wait to get started. I can see some familiar faces from the last time I was here, which is always nice.”
Professional Journey
João Félix enjoyed a fruitful season on loan at Barcelona from Atlético Madrid, scoring 10 goals in 44 appearances. While he had hoped to continue with Barça beyond the summer, he returned to Atlético after representing Portugal at Euro 2024. The 24-year-old forward is Chelsea’s 11th summer signing, joining the ranks of other new recruits such as Pedro Neto, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Félix’s impressive career trajectory started at Benfica before his move to Atlético Madrid in 2019 for a club-record fee of €126m. During his time at Atlético, he amassed 34 goals in 131 games, showcasing his scoring prowess.
With his return to Chelsea, João Félix is poised to make a significant impact in the Premier League once again. His technical skills, goal-scoring ability, and versatility on the pitch make him a valuable asset for the London club. As Félix reunites with familiar faces and embarks on a new chapter in his footballing journey, all eyes will be on him to deliver stellar performances and contribute to Chelsea’s success on the domestic and European fronts. The footballing world eagerly anticipates the next chapter in the rise of João Félix from Atlético Madrid to Chelsea.
