The Future of Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood at Manchester United

Manchester United are expecting both Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood to return to training if they have not secured moves away from the club by the start of preseason. Players who are not participating in the European Championship or Copa América have been asked to report back to Carrington on July 8. While the club is actively working on finding new clubs for Sancho and Greenwood, they will be expected to resume training if they are still United players by the specified deadline.

Greenwood’s Potential Return

Mason Greenwood, who is attracting interest from clubs like Lazio, Juventus, Napoli, and Marseille, could potentially begin training at Carrington for the first time since January 2022. He had been suspended following his arrest on serious charges, which were later dropped in February 2023. Greenwood spent last season on loan at Getafe and is now facing the possibility of returning to United if a suitable offer does not materialize.

Arrangements for Jadon Sancho’s potential return to the club have not yet been finalized. The young winger spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund after a fallout with manager Erik ten Hag. Despite being offered to clubs like Barcelona and Juventus, the high valuation of around £40 million ($51m) has been a stumbling block for potential suitors. United are keen on securing permanent departures for both Sancho and Greenwood but have not ruled out the option of loan deals.

Staff Reshuffle at United

In the midst of all this, Manchester United are also undergoing changes to their coaching staff ahead of the new season. Talks have been held with Go Ahead Eagles manager Rene Hake, who is likely to join Erik ten Hag’s backroom team at Old Trafford. Hake has previously worked with Ten Hag at FC Twente and is expected to be a part of the coaching staff overhaul. The club is also set to appoint former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy in a coaching capacity.

As the coaching staff undergoes reshuffling, the roles of current assistants Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren, who arrived with Ten Hag in 2022, remain unclear. Additionally, forwards coach Benni McCarthy is also facing an uncertain future as his contract is set to expire at the end of the month. Manchester United are aiming to make significant changes both on and off the field as they prepare for the upcoming season.
