Manchester United to Relocate Women’s Team to Portable Buildings

Manchester United has decided to relocate their women’s team to portable buildings at the club’s Carrington training complex in order to accommodate the men’s squad during renovations. This decision has reportedly disappointed the women’s first-team players who were accustomed to the state-of-the-art facilities provided in the original building shared between the women’s and academy teams.

The original £10 million ($12.6m) building featured a gym, rehabilitation areas, changing rooms, kit and boot rooms, as well as a women’s first-team restaurant with a live cooking area, analysis and meeting rooms, and a players’ lounge. However, the women’s team will now have to make do with portable buildings for their everyday needs such as changing rooms, team meeting rooms, office spaces, and communal areas, while still utilizing the same pitches and canteen as before.

Renovations and Investments

Renovations on a £50 million investment to upgrade the men’s first-team building have already begun and are expected to last throughout the 2024-25 campaign. The club has assured that temporary adaptations will be made to the rest of the Carrington site to ensure the successful operation of all teams next season. This move comes after INEOS chairman and United co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, indicated that plans for the women’s team are yet to be finalized.

Sources have revealed that Manchester United is facing the departure of one of their most high-profile players, Mary Earps, who has declined a contract extension with the club. The England goalkeeper is reportedly on the verge of a move to Paris Saint-Germain, adding to the challenges faced by the women’s team amidst the relocation to temporary facilities.

While Manchester United’s decision to relocate their women’s team to portable buildings may be necessary to accommodate renovations for the men’s squad, it has caused disappointment among the women players who were used to the top-notch facilities in the original shared building. It remains to be seen how this move will impact the team’s performance and morale in the upcoming season.
