Manchester United Nearing Deal for Bologna Striker

Manchester United is on the brink of securing a deal for Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, according to a source familiar with the situation. The club has successfully navigated the hurdle of agreeing upon payments for Zirkzee’s representatives, which had previously posed a challenge. Subsequently, they are now focused on finalizing an arrangement with Bologna.

At 23 years old, Zirkzee has become Manchester United’s prime target for the striker position, surpassing the likes of Jonathan David from Lille and Ivan Toney from Brentford. Despite interest from AC Milan, United appears to be in pole position for his signature. With a release clause of £34 million ($43.5m) in his contract until August, negotiations are underway to potentially alter the terms of the deal.

Champions League Qualification Gives Zirkzee Appeal

Zirkzee’s impressive campaign with Bologna, where he scored 12 goals, helped the team secure a fifth-place finish in Serie A and qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their modern history. This achievement has undoubtedly added to the allure of bringing the Dutch striker to Old Trafford.

United’s Comprehensive Recruitment Strategy

Manchester United’s transfer strategy extends beyond just acquiring Zirkzee. The club is also in discussions with Bayern Munich regarding a move for Zirkzee’s international compatriot, Matthijs de Ligt. Bayern Munich values the 24-year-old defender at over £40m, indicating a significant investment may be necessary to secure his services.

With the summer transfer window in full swing, Manchester United’s priorities include strengthening their squad in key areas. A striker, a centre-back, and a central midfielder are all on the shopping list as they aim to bolster their squad for the upcoming season. Led by newly appointed sporting director Dan Ashworth, United’s recruitment efforts are under close scrutiny as they look to revamp their squad.

Van de Beek’s Departure and Preseason Preparations

Meanwhile, midfielder Donny van de Beek, who spent the latter part of the previous season on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt, is set to join Girona in a permanent deal worth approximately £420,000. As United look to reshape their squad, some players are set to depart while others are gearing up for the start of preseason training. Those not involved in international tournaments are expected back at Carrington to kickstart preparations for the new campaign.

In an effort to bolster their coaching staff, Manchester United has expanded their Dutch contingent by adding legendary striker Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake on two-year deals. This move signals the club’s intent to blend experience with new ideas as they aim for success in the upcoming season.
