Barcelona Eyes Juventus’ Federico Chiesa as Potential Winger Signing

Barcelona is currently in the market for a new winger before the transfer window closes, and sources have revealed that Juventus’ Federico Chiesa has caught the eye of the Catalan club. At 26 years old, Chiesa has become one of Barcelona’s primary options to bolster their attacking options. His interest in joining Barcelona, coupled with Juventus’ willingness to let him leave, has made him an attractive prospect for the Spanish giants.

Exploring Low-Cost Alternatives

Initially, Barcelona had set their sights on Spain and Athletic Club winger Nico Williams at the start of the summer. However, with hefty release clauses of €58 million ($64.5m) for Williams and €100 million for AC Milan’s Rafael Leão, Barcelona has been forced to look into more cost-effective alternatives. This has led them to consider the option of signing Chiesa from Juventus, with the Italian club open to offers in the region of €15 million as his contract is set to expire next year.

Despite Chiesa’s impressive performances last season, his career hit a roadblock in 2022 when he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury that kept him sidelined for 11 months. However, he managed to make a strong return in the second half of the 2022-23 campaign, making 37 appearances for Juventus and earning a spot in Italy’s Euro 2024 squad. Despite his comeback, Barcelona is cautious and will require him to undergo a thorough medical examination before considering a potential transfer.

Financial Considerations and Transfer Moves

Barcelona’s financial situation remains a crucial factor in any potential deal for Chiesa. The club is currently facing constraints due to exceeding their annual spending limit, which has resulted in summer signing Dani Olmo not yet being registered with LaLiga. To free up space for Olmo’s registration, Barcelona may need to offload players such as Vitor Roque, Clément Lenglet, Eric García, and Ansu Fati before making any more incoming transfers.

As Barcelona navigates the complexities of their financial situation, the club has identified left winger as a position that needs reinforcement. While Williams and Leão may be out of reach due to their high costs, Barcelona is exploring the option of signing Kingsley Coman from Bayern Munich as a more affordable alternative. With Ilkay Gündogan’s pending move to Manchester City expected to open up space for Olmo’s registration, Barcelona is poised to make strategic moves before the transfer window closes.
