Barcelona’s recent acquisition, Dani Olmo, has yet to be officially registered with LaLiga due to the club’s financial difficulties. Despite his transfer from RB Leipzig for a substantial fee, Barça remains over their spending limit imposed by the league. As a result, Olmo was unable to make his debut in the opening-day victory against Valencia.
In a bid to have Olmo available for their upcoming fixture against Athletic Club, Barcelona has expedited the process of reducing their wage bill and increasing revenue. The club is working on securing several player departures, including the likes of Ilkay Gündogan, Clément Lenglet, Mikayil Faye, and Vitor Roque.
Lenglet is reportedly close to signing a contract extension with Barcelona until 2027 before being loaned out to Atlético Madrid for the season. Faye is set to join Rennes in a deal worth €14m, with potential clauses for future reacquisition by Barça. Roque, on the other hand, will head to Real Betis on loan following his unsuccessful stint with the Catalans.
Fermín López, who enjoyed success with Spain in both the European Championships and the Olympic Games, makes a return to Barcelona’s squad for the first time this season. However, the team will be without Andreas Christensen, who is sidelined with an Achilles problem.
In addition to Christensen, Barcelona will also be missing key players like Ronald Araújo, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, and Ansu Fati due to long-term injuries. This further complicates the team’s preparations for the upcoming matches.
