Weston McKennie in Talks Over New Juventus Deal

Recent reports have indicated that United States midfielder Weston McKennie is currently engaged in negotiations for a new contract with Juventus. McKennie’s existing contract with the Serie A giants is set to expire in June 2025, and there have been speculations regarding his potential departure during the current transfer window. Despite interest from various clubs including those from the Bundesliga, Premier League, and Fiorentina, McKennie seems inclined towards extending his stay with Juventus.

The summer of 2021 saw some instability in McKennie’s position at Juventus. The 25-year-old midfielder was notably excluded from the squad for the team’s final two preseason matches. Alongside him, goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny and Federico Chiesa were also left out, with manager Thiago Motta stating that they needed to seek alternative arrangements promptly. While Szczęsny has since parted ways with the club by mutual agreement, Chiesa remains sidelined. However, McKennie made a return to first-team training towards the end of the week, indicating a potential reconciliation.

Manager Thiago Motta expressed his appreciation for McKennie’s contributions stating that he is a valuable asset to the team. Despite being an unused substitute in Juventus’ recent victory against Como, McKennie has expressed his desire to prolong his contract with the club for an additional year. This extension would see him through to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

McKennie’s track record showcases his proficiency, having started in all three of the USMNT’s Copa América group stage matches. Additionally, he appeared in 34 Serie A fixtures for Juventus during the previous season, highlighting his consistency and reliability on the field. As discussions regarding his contract continue, it remains to be seen how the negotiations will unfold and whether McKennie will indeed commit to an extended stay with Juventus.
