Erik Ten Hag Discusses Luke Shaw’s Injury Setback and Manchester United’s Squad Boost

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has made it clear that he will not rush Luke Shaw back into action following the full-back’s recent injury setback. Shaw, who has been sidelined until after the season’s first international break due to a calf injury sustained in training, has not played for Ten Hag’s team since February. Despite Shaw’s absence, he was chosen to start for England in the Euro 2024 final against Spain, a decision that has faced criticism from some United fans.

During a news conference on Thursday, Ten Hag emphasized the importance of Shaw to the team while acknowledging the need for patience in his recovery process. “He will return in the short term, it doesn’t take long,” stated Ten Hag. “We are looking forward to having Luke Shaw back on the field as soon as possible, but we must allow his recovery to progress naturally without rushing him.”

While Shaw will miss United’s opening Premier League game against Fulham, the team has received a boost with the addition of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. The duo, who were signed from Bayern Munich this week, are expected to play a role in the upcoming matches at Old Trafford as per Ten Hag.

Ten Hag expressed confidence in the squad’s capabilities despite the absence of key players. “Issues are present, but our focus is on those who are available,” stated Ten Hag. “Similar to last season, we will field a strong team with the available players. De Ligt and Mazraoui will be included in the squad, along with Harry Maguire, as we aim to continuously improve and raise performance levels game by game.”

Ten Hag highlighted the team’s ongoing process of gradual improvement and development. “We are not at 100% yet, but our goal is to progress with each game and elevate both the team’s overall performance and that of individual players,” explained Ten Hag.

Erik ten Hag’s cautious approach to handling Luke Shaw’s recovery and the inclusion of new signings emphasize Manchester United’s commitment to steady progress and enhanced performance levels as they embark on the new season.
