Thiago Alcântara Joins Coaching Staff at Barcelona After Retirement

Thiago Alcântara, the former Spain international, has decided to retire from playing and has joined Hansi Flick’s coaching staff at Barcelona. This move is seen as a key step in helping Flick familiarize himself with the dynamics and nuances of the club.

Thiago’s Background

Thiago, who came through the ranks at Barcelona’s youth academy, La Masia, went on to make 101 appearances for the first team before moving to Bayern Munich in 2013. He played under Flick at Bayern and was instrumental in the club’s treble-winning season in 2020.

After facing injury setbacks during his time at Anfield, Thiago announced his retirement when his contract expired in June. However, he has quickly transitioned into a coaching role to assist Flick in his new venture at Barcelona. Thiago will spend the summer training as a coach with the first team squad and will also be part of the U.S tour.

In addition to Thiago’s arrival, Flick has made significant changes to the coaching staff at Barcelona. Marcus Sorg, Toni Tapalovic, and Heiko Westermann have joined as assistant coaches, while José Ramon De la Fuente continues as the goalkeeping coach. The fitness department has also been revamped with the appointment of Julio Tous, Pepe Conde, Rafa Maldonado, and Germán Fernández.

Club’s Future Under Flick

Barcelona confirmed the appointment of Flick on a two-year deal in May after parting ways with previous coach Xavi Hernández. With a new coaching team in place, the club is looking to usher in a new era of success and competitiveness.

Thiago Alcântara’s move to join the coaching staff at Barcelona signifies a new chapter in his career. His experience as a player, coupled with his understanding of the club’s ethos, will be invaluable in assisting Hansi Flick as he settles into his role as the head coach. The changes in the coaching staff and fitness department reflect Barcelona’s commitment to building a strong foundation for future success.
